Development of an innovative solution for the assessment of the impact and damage of hydrometeorological activities
The Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service (LHMT) is looking for a reliable, historically based automated technological solution that would forecast dangerous, natural and catastrophic phenomena; provide warnings about the possible impact of these phenomena on the environment and damage to the country’s socio-economic sectors.
Context
- Climate change is also changing natural phenomena and their damage, impact on the environment, socio-economic sectors, therefore there is a need to review and verify the established indicators and assess the potential impact and damage to the environment and socio-economic sectors of the country based on newly assessed indicators.
- The development of a digital innovative solution would directly contribute to the more efficient performance of LHMT functions: providing forecasts and assessing the potential impact of dangerous, natural and catastrophic phenomena, and prompt warning of residents and economic operators about the location, time and extent and impact of potential phenomena.
Solution
To solve the presented problem-challenge, it is necessary to create a reliable, historically based automated technological solution, which would be used to make forecasts of dangerous, natural and catastrophic phenomena and provide warnings about the potential impact of these phenomena on the environment and damage to socio-economic sectors.
