Patient Identification and Medical Data Retrieval Solution

Klaipėda Hospital is looking for a digital solution to reliably and instantly identify a patient in a critical condition and to ensure reliable and safe healthcare delivery, reducing the likelihood of errors and adverse events.

Contex

  • Every day, the hospital’s Emergency Department receives 100-200 patients in various states of severity, including those in critical condition (unconscious, unable to speak after trauma, etc.), with whom communication between medical staff is often impossible, and with whom patients in critical condition are unable to respond to questions from medical staff.
  • Patient identification is essential in the course of treatment, during transport or referral to procedural, X-ray, CT, MRI or other instrumental rooms, as well as in operating theatres, and in the availability of medical information on the various tests that have been prescribed for the identified patient.
  • There is always a risk that the medical record of a critical patient could be mixed up and the wrong laboratory tests, instrumental tests, drug prescriptions, interventional procedures or surgery could be performed on the patient. Critical patients cannot answer questions from medical staff, and doctors have to go through the patient’s medical history on a computer. The time spent with critical patients is often crucial.

Solution

  • The solution should be easy to use, with patient identification with an ID tag at all stages of treatment.
  • The solution should save time in patient identification and medical record retrieval.
  • The solution should significantly reduce or eliminate the risk of erroneous laboratory and instrumental tests for an identified patient.

A detailed description of the functional and non-functional requirements of the solution is given in Annex 3 ‘Technical Specification’ of the contract.
